Miami Shores Buzz: What's Trending Now

Miami Shores Village, FL Community

Miami Shores might not host its own Thanksgiving Day parade, but that doesn’t mean the holiday season is any less festive around here. Just a quick drive away in neighboring North Miami, one of South Florida’s most beloved traditions is turning the big 5-0 this year.

A Golden Jubilee Right Next Door

The 50th Annual Winternational Thanksgiving Day Parade rolls through North Miami on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM, and it’s everything you want in a Thanksgiving morning celebration. The parade route runs along NE 125th Street from NE 6th Avenue to NE 10th Avenue, featuring dazzling floats, energetic marching bands, and cultural performances that showcase the area’s incredible diversity. With half a century under its belt, this parade knows how to deliver hometown pride with style.

What Makes This Parade Special

The Winternational Thanksgiving Day Parade brings together the entire South Florida community for a morning of music, laughter, and genuine holiday spirit. Limited seating is available at North Miami City Hall (776 NE 125 Street), but many families stake out their favorite spots along the route early. The main stage hosts a Battle of the Bands competition where local musicians show off their talents, and community groups of all kinds participate to make this celebration truly memorable. Registration for performers opened back in March and runs through November 20, so the lineup is packed with excitement.

Tune In From Your Couch

Not feeling the crowds? The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade airs its 99th edition on NBC and Peacock starting at 8:30 AM in all time zones. Hosted by TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker, this iconic broadcast brings New York City’s spectacle straight to your living room. There’s also an encore telecast at 2:00 PM ET/PT if you’re busy with turkey prep during the morning. Peacock streaming makes it super easy to watch on any device, and you can even catch a Spanish-language simulcast on Telemundo.

Behind the Balloons and Floats

Ever wonder what goes into creating those massive parade floats? First-time balloons cost at least $190,000, which covers admission to the parade and all the production magic. Santa’s Sleigh holds the title as the largest float in the Macy’s Parade at 60 feet long, 22 feet wide, and 3.5 stories tall. Meanwhile, Tom Turkey has been leading parades for decades as the longest-running title float. The iconic Rocking Horse float, handmade by legendary designer Manny Bass, remains the oldest float still in use. Horses actually pulled these floats until 1939, when the parade modernized its approach.

Making the Most of Your Morning

If you’re heading to the North Miami parade, arrive early to snag a good viewing spot. Bring folding chairs, snacks, and water bottles to keep everyone comfortable. The weather in South Florida during late November is usually gorgeous, but toss some sunscreen in your bag just in case. Parking near City Hall fills up fast, so consider carpooling or using rideshare services. For TV watchers, prep your coffee, set up the cozy blankets, and enjoy the parade in pajamas while the turkey roasts in the background.

Beyond the Parades

South Florida offers plenty of Thanksgiving weekend fun after the morning festivities wrap up. Miami Aqua Tours hosts special Biscayne Bay cruises with waterfront views and sunset celebrations. Bayside Marketplace features live music, shopping, and dining right on the marina. Many families head to local parks for afternoon gatherings or explore the vibrant food scene that makes this area so special.

Whether you’re watching floats roll down NE 125th Street or streaming the big show from your living room, Thanksgiving morning in the Miami Shores area brings joy, community, and that perfect Florida sunshine to kick off the holiday season right.
