Miami Shores Buzz: What's Trending Now

Miami Shores Village, FL Community

If you find yourself in Miami Shores, Florida, and have a taste for contemporary art, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is a must-visit destination. Officially known as the Jorge M. Pérez Art Museum of Miami-Dade County, this museum has been a beacon of modern and contemporary art since it relocated in 2013 to its striking new home at 1103 Biscayne Boulevard, located in Maurice A. Ferré Park in Downtown Miami.

A Building That’s Art Itself

Designed by the renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, the museum building is more than just a place to view art- it’s a piece of art in its own right. With its open structure, hanging gardens, and stunning views of Biscayne Bay, the architecture invites visitors to experience art in a setting that complements and enhances the exhibits. The design cleverly incorporates natural light and greenery, creating a vibrant atmosphere that feels both modern and welcoming.

What’s Inside: The Collection

PAMM’s collection is impressive, boasting nearly 2,000 works primarily from the 20th and 21st centuries. It showcases art from the Americas, Western Europe, and Africa, reflecting the diverse cultural tapestry of Miami itself.

The museum’s holdings include paintings, sculptures, installations, video, and photography, featuring artists like Diego Rivera, Kehinde Wiley, Frank Stella, and Cuban painters José Bedia Valdés and Wifredo Lam. Many pieces have been generously donated by Jorge M. Pérez, the museum’s namesake and a major benefactor, who contributed over 100 works and $35 million towards the museum’s construction.

The museum also puts a spotlight on underrepresented artists, especially from Latin America and African-American communities, thanks to dedicated acquisition funds and programs. This focus makes PAMM a dynamic space for discovering fresh perspectives and thought-provoking contemporary art.
